Plan for a roof replacement before choosing the work
Explore a DFW asphalt-shingle replacement budget before choosing a product. The result shows the roof area and included work, so you can see what the total covers.
Start with the 2,000-square-foot example if you do not have a roof measurement. Living area is not the same as roof area: a second floor stacks living space, while a garage or porch adds covered area. The tool can work from known roof surface or from a roof footprint and pitch. You do not need to measure anything to request an inspection.
Try a roof replacement budget example
The starting result is for 2,000 square feet of actual roof surface, using asphalt shingles and including ordinary tear-off and disposal. Change the known area or keep the example.
Keep the 2,000 sq. ft. example, or enter an area you already know. Roof footprint means the area covered, not total living space.
Keep the 6:12 example unless you already know the pitch. Pitch helps check material suitability.

What this budget includes
DFW installed asphalt-shingle budgets include ordinary tear-off and disposal. The range covers asphalt shingles generally, with premium products priced separately.
Known roof surface is used directly. Footprint mode adjusts area for pitch; it adds no steep-roof labor premium.
The total is a roof-work budget before property-specific changes, separate from insurance payments and deductibles.
A roofing budget needs more than the shingle choice
A roof is priced as work on a building. Removing the existing covering, installing water protection and rebuilding the roof details are part of that work. The shingle is the visible finish, but the deck and flashing need to be sound underneath it.
A simple roof and one with several valleys, walls and penetrations can require different labor even at the same surface area. The calculator does not invent add-on charges for those differences. A roof inspection and measured scope bring them into the actual price.

What can move the final roof price
| Project detail | Why the budget changes |
|---|---|
| Decking condition | Damaged or weakened wood must be dealt with after the covering is removed. The amount is property specific. |
| Roof geometry and access | Steeper, higher or more interrupted roof areas take different handling and detail work. |
| Material selection | The source rate covers asphalt shingles generally. Premium shingles, metal and special systems need their own prices. |
| Flashing and adjacent work | Walls, chimneys, vents and edges need compatible connections. Masonry, gutters or interior restoration can have separate scopes. |
| Insurance payment | A claim payment depends on covered cause and policy terms. It is not the calculator’s total-project budget. |

Roof cost calculator FAQs
Is this an estimate for my Richardson roof?
It is an early regional budget. Measurements, product selection and the roof’s condition and access establish the project price.
Why does footprint mode change the result when pitch changes?
The sloped surface covers more area than its horizontal footprint. The tool adjusts that geometry. It does not add a separate labor premium for a steep or complicated roof, so the real project price can differ.
Can I use my home’s advertised square footage?
Only if it is actually the roof footprint or roof surface measurement. Advertised living area can omit the garage and count multiple stories. Keep the example if you are unsure; measurements can be addressed with the roofing work.
Will insurance pay the amount shown?
The result is a roof-work planning budget. Coverage, deductible, depreciation and any uncovered work determine what an insurer pays and what you pay. The roof insurance guide explains those separate terms.
